True Light Resources partnered with Schipul – The Web Marketing Company to create The Center’s new website. “We selected Schipul because of their dynamic association management software, Tendenci.” says JJ Lassberg, co-owner and creative force of True Light Resources. “The Center’s old website was no longer meeting our needs”, said Roshindia M. Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Did somebody say, “hole in one”? That may have been the phrase of the day, when more than 150 players gathered on Friday, November 17, 2006 for the Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting The Center – Serving Persons With Mental Retardation. There were a total of four teams and the teams were made up of players from 4 different countries. The excitement was not limited to the golf tournament; there were tons of giveaway’s and opportunity for our clients to meet the players, while pacing out golf bags filled with lots of goodies.

Each year the golf tournament takes place and it is always a huge success, thanks to Will Williams, who is the coordinator for this annual event. Mr. Williams is a long time supporter and volunteer for the The Center, where he also seats on the The Centers Board of Governors. Mr. Williams was asked what motivates him to get involved and plan such events like the Golf Tournament, he states, “helping others and getting involved in the community gratifies him”. Mr. Williams does not stop there, each year he sponsors the annual Easter egg hunt that is held at The Center – Serving Persons With Mental Retardation. The golf tournament is just another way to promote community involvement for persons with mental retardation. We accomplish our goals through the efforts of many individuals and companies.

Thursday January 19, 2007 - Annual Luncheon

On Thursday January 19, 2007 more than 400 people gathered at the River Oaks Country Club, for the annual luncheon benefiting The Center – Serving Persons With Mental Retardation. This luncheon will definitely be one to remember, after the hearing the touching but, very inspiring story of Dick Hoyt and his son also known as “Team Hoyt.”

Dick Hoyt and his son, Rick Form “Team Hoyt” together, they have completed in over 945 athletic events in the last 27 years-including 25 Boston Marathons and 8 Iron man Triathlons. It’s a remarkable record of exertion-all the more, when you consider that Rick can’t walk or talk. They also travel the world speaking out to educate the public about with disabilities and promoting the Team Hoyt motto, which is “Yes You Can!”

This year’s banquet is honoring Elizabeth Deluca a lifetime supporter of The Center and Founder of The Carline School.

Supported Living Program

Daily Living Skills Training
Skills Assessment
Counseling
Social/leisure activities

Operational for over 15 years, the Supported Living Program offers persons with developmental disabilities staff support and guidance while they participate as an integral part of their community. Each person lives in his or her own apartment either alone or with roommate. Residents in the Program have gone through rigorous training and assessment to ensure their skills are at their highest potential. Service delivery is based on individualized assessment, and provides an array of opportunities for each individual resident. Services can include, but are not limited to assistance with cooking, shopping, and banking. We promote full community integration, and encourage residents to take advantage of the many resources available.

Adult Training & Employment Services A.T.E.S.

The mission of Adult Training & Employment Services is to provide training, employment services and support to adults with developmental disabilities. Through these activities, The Center empowers them to achieve community integration by maximizing their social and vocational independence.

Momentum Industries

Momentum Industries provides adults with developmental disabilities programs where they can learn work habits and skills needed to become valued employees. One of the primary goals of the program is to enable persons to acquire the skills they need to be seen by employers, as contributing members of their work force.

A.T.E.S. offers various options to respond to individual needs: day habilitation services, work center training, supervised off site crews and supported employment. Momentum Industries provides a ready work force of over 250 trainees to the business community. Not only is contract work performed within the work center, but also work crews are available to travel to the customer’s workplace.

Typical work performed through Momentum Industries includes pricing, sorting, repackaging, mail out services and order fulfillment. Momentum Industries also operates a furniture restoration program and landscape department. Cullen Caners repair and restore wicker, cane or rush furniture and antiques to their original beauty. The landscape department operates two full crews with a wide range of customers, including City Of Houston and Texas Department of Transportation.

The Day Habilitation Services

The Day Habilitation Services offer classroom and community based activities to help develop the client’s awareness and self-help skills. Classroom activities focus on a variety of topics to include current events, arts & crafts, basic education, personal grooming and social skills. Community activities focus on field trips, both for personal and educational awareness.

Cullen Residence Hall

The Cullen Residence Hall is home to nearly 200 men and women. In addition to private living quarters, the Cullen complex provides a dining room, a snack bar, an on-site bank, a Laundromat, a gift shop, health and dental services, and housekeeping and transportation services. Planned social activities and lounge and recreational areas build community while assistive services are designed for each individual to promote independent living. Now accepting ICF clients.

Cullen Residence Hall is located on the main campus of The Center at 810 Marston Drive, Houston, Texas 77019.

The Center Foundation is proud to announce its new vehicle donation program. It's as simple as 1. Call 866-415-0006 2. Give your vehicle information to the operator 3. Schedule your pick up date All you have to provide at pick up are the keys and title. Whether it runs or not, the program accepts all vehicles - cars, trucks, boats on trailers, RVs, motorcycles, motor scooters, etc. The Center Foundation will receive 75% of proceeds after the towing company and auction house are paid. Your donation may qualify as a charitable deduction on your federal income tax return because The Center Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The new tax law allows a minimum of a $500 a deduction or equal to the gross proceeds from the sale of the donated vehicle.
